I am really sick, any tips? Please help me!?

I have the most dreadful cold right now. I have these symptoms…

*Really runny nose(literally hasn’t stopped all day)
*Really stuffy nose(can hardly even breathe)
*Extremely congested headache
*Upset stomach
*Fever
*Really really really sore throat
*My ears have been clogged up ALL day(I can’t hear a thing!)

I feel just terrible! I have benchmarks this week, and tomorrow is review day for math! I have missed about 14 days of school this year(I have caught everything that has come around my town, twice). If you haven’t noticed, I have a screwed-up immune system. I really need some suggestions to get well ASAP! I MIGHT be able to review separately for math if I rest tomorrow……please help me! :-)

Thanks in advance
Amelia Anne

Neutrophil granulocytes as a trojan horse for leishmania?

I have read a review on how Leishmania parasites can use the neutrophil immune cells as temporary shelters, until the cells die and both cell and parasite are engulfed by a macrophage. Allowing the parasite to access its host cell undetected by the immune system.

My question is actually about alternative pathways, assuming the parasite was not engulfed by a neutrophil but by a macrophage which detected the pathogen. A) would the parasite survive macrophage killing and how and B) would the infection take hold.

I have done some research into this and whilst finding lots of information on the first route of entry, i am having trouble finding papers or information on straight macrophage phagocytosis of leishmania as a route of entry.

If possible please link papers/sources
Thanks

life and health in our mouth?

The following article, entitled,
“Patient Know Best”, appeared in the August 1991 of the Reader’s Digest:

“A person’s answer to the question, “Is your health excellent, good, fair or poor?”
is a remarkable predictor of who will live or die over the next four years according to new finding.

A study of more than 2800 men and women 65 and older found that those who rate their health ‘poor’ are four out of five times more likely to die in the next four years than those who rate their health ‘excellent.’ This was the case even if examinations show the respondancts to be in comparable health.

These findings are supported by a review of five other large studies, totaling 23,000 people, whick reached similar conclusions according to Ellen Idler, a sociologist a Rutgers University, and epidemiologist Stanislav Kasl of Yale university School of Medicine, co-others of the new study.”

People that have an image of themselves being in poor health will talk about poor health. Even though they may be in good health, they seem to live out the reality of the image they have of themselves even unto death.

This would confirm Proverbs 18:21, Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

What you believe and speak not only affect your body, but your immune system, cells regeneration from surgery or injuries, and going even farther, the health of your spirit and your mind, even spoiled or dying relationship with others, your far away dreams and hope, and let not leave out our finances IMAGE. Our words of failure or success has become either a blessing or a curse to ourselves..maybe even to others.(if they agree or not with your words)

long life: does it really matter what we say?

If a pure vegetarian diet stopped cancers, would you be willing to stop eating dairy and meat?

“Previous studies including the Adventist Health Study-2 show that following a vegan diet results in the lowest BMI of any group (lacto-ovo-vegetarian, pesco-vegetarian, semivegetarian, nonvegetarian), making them less susceptible to obesity-related cancers.” (Tonstad S, Butler T, Yan R, Fraser GE. Type of vegetarian diet, body weight, and prevalence of type 2 diabetes. Diabetes Care. 2009;32:791-796.)

“The link between diet and cancer is not new. In January 1892, Scientific American printed the observation that “cancer is most frequent among those branches of the human race where carnivorous habits prevail.” Numerous research studies have shown that cancer is much more common in populations consuming diets rich in fatty foods, particularly meat, and much less common in countries eating diets rich in grains, vegetables, and fruits. One reason is that foods affect the action of hormones in the body. They also affect the strength of the immune system and other factors. While fruits and vegetables contain a variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals to protect the body, by contrast, recent research shows that animal products contain potentially carcinogenic compounds which may contribute to increased cancer risk.” (Minamoto T, Mai M, Ronai Z. Environmental factors as regulators and effectors of multistep carcinogenesis. Carcinogenesis 1999;20(4):519-27.

You might look at 3 decades of peer reviewed and NIH grant research conducted to support this viewpoint. It’s sad how uninformed our professionals are about this topic.

Bacteria, pathogenesis and immunology?

I am doing a science project at my university at the moment, where im studying bacterial pathogenesis.
I am looking for a good example of a pathogenic bacteria, which manipulates or interacts in interesting ways with our immune system. Do you know any good examples I could check out?

I am looking for more books on the subject too. I have found “Review of Medical Microbiology and Immunology” good, but I miss a walk-through of different virulence factors, who make the bacteria enter the body(especially this one), multiply and do damage.

Final exam review biology questions:?

I don’t need you to answer all of them, but whoever can answer the most will get 10 points. your help is very appreciated (: These questions are from my biology exam review, and i can’t seem to find the answers.
