Well I have some biology questions that I need to answer.
It’s about homeostasis, and how it functions.
I have the answers to most of the questions, but some of them I either can’t find in my text book or I just dont’ know it.
Can someone please give me the answers, but with detail on why or how it does it? I prefer if you give me the answer and brief explanation, or you can just give me the answer and I’ll look it up in my textbook(I really am not tryin’ to cheat, just need help)
Probably 9 q’s out of 25
1.)An individual presents themselves to a doctor. They are feeling lethargic and have had frequent illness. The doctor decides to take a blood sample to help diagnose the patient. The results show an abnormally high white blood cell counts. Later, the patient is diagnosed with an HIV infection. How is a white blood cell count a good indicator of a viral infection?
2.) You go cliff jumping at Pace Bend Park. Inevitably, you swallow some unprocessed lake water in the midst of your fun. Later that night, while dreaming of your amazing bio class, your body temp. is elevated as well. how is your body trying to maintain homeostasis?
3.) Your enjoying the last days of your summer break. The heat index indicates that it is a blistering 105 F degrees outside. While riding your bike to the pool, you break out in to the beads of salty sweat. How is your body trying to maintain homeostasis?
4.) Your best friend, after another trip to taco bell, is inspired to purchase a Chihuahua. They take their new furry companion to watch the Superbowl for dogs…the iditarod!(haha) This takes place in Alaska, during the frigid Alaskan winter. Your friend forgets Fido’s sweater. he is shivering. How is Fido maintaining as he shivers?(this one confuses me alot)
5.) Unlike a harmful bacteria or virus, pollen is not considered a dangerous pathogenic microbe. However, you are playing outside amongst the cedar trees of Cedar Park. Your eyes begin to water. You sneeze uncontrollably. how is your body trying to maintain homeostasis?
6.) You are kayaking on Town Lake. You look around and notice a cute family of turtles sun-bathing on a rock. How are these turtles maintaining homeostasis?
7.) Your baby brother loves to drink apple juice out of his sippy-cup. You keep having to change his wet diapers while your parents are out for the evening. How is your brother’s excretory system maintaining homeostasis?( I think I know this one, but I want to see what people say 1st.)
8.) How does the immune system contribute to homeostasis?
Woops, it was only 8.
Well if you can try to answer as many as you can please.
And I need the explanation to help me understand the answer.
Thank you all.
